
Following the bloody clashes between the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF), Uganda Police Force and Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere’s Royal Guards at the Rwenzururu’s Palace in Kasese District on Saturday and Sunday, Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere was on Tuesday afternoon paraded before the Jinja Magistrates Court after he was arrested and charged with Murder of PC Geoffrey Kasimba. Mumbere was arrested, airlifted to Kampala and thereafter driven to Nalufenya Prison in Jinja. He was remanded to Kirinya Prison till December 13, 2016. Mumbere denied the charges and called them fabricated.

The Police Spokesperson Andrew Felix Kaweesi paraded 14 AK-47 Guns, Multiple rounds of ammunition, petrol bombs, several shot stabbing spears and military uniform that were allegedly recovered from Rwenzururu’s palace. The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) together with the Police has embarked on a campaign to flash out the insurgents who have been termed as the Kirumira Mutiima militia group and restore calm to the Rwenzori Region. Mumbere’s Royal Guards have been described as criminals who are intent on destabilizing the Rwenzori Region.
Meanwhile former FDC Presidential Candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye has called for an International Audit inquiry into the Kasese Clashes. Besigye who was on Tuesday speaking during the FDC Retreat in Jinja said that President Museveni is using Divide and rule Policy in the Country including in Kasese.

In his official Statement, President Yoweri Museveni revealed that all those involved in the criminal scheme will be severely punished.
“It (attack) was defeated right on the first day of its execution even before the full potential of the UPDF has been mobilized. The scheme is doomed to total failure”, President Museveni’s statement read.
The clashes that have claimed close to 60 lives both from the armed forces and the Mumbere’s royal guards has continued to draw arguments and counter-arguments from different circles.
