
The ten people who killed one person in a gruesome manner in addition to robbing residents of Bwebajja zone their valuables plus cash have been jailed 35years in prison by Dr. Justice Joseph Murangira. The convicts are Muhammad Semakula, Zainab Nasanga, John Kasule alias Vianney Jombwe, Ali Kasule Kirumira, Joseph Suuna, Irene Namutebi, Ivan Nsubuga, Donozio Lubega, Faith Jurua and Farooq Mugerwa.
The Judge informed court that the ten convicts were found guilty of murdering Lawrence Sekitoleko whom they beat to death, in addition to committing sixteen counts of aggravated robbery in Bwebajja zone, Wakiso district.
The ten convicts who were armed with pieces of timber, sticks, clubs, pangas, hammers and iron bars committed the seventeen offenses on 21, August, 2014 at Bwebajja zone in Wakiso district where they raided sixteen homes and beat up residents whom they robbed their valuables including phones, DVD players , flat iron boxes plus their hard earned cash.
The presiding Judge informed court that prosecution adduced evidence through eleven witnesses who earlier testified in court pinning down the convicts and that prosecution proved its case against the convicts whom court found guilty of murder and aggravated robbery. The Judge added that prosecution led by Senior Resident State Attorney Julius Tuhairwe relied on twenty exhibits while the defense side Led by Counsel Francis Xavier Ogwado had no exhibits to defense its case.
The Judge said he concurs with the prosecution Lawyer that commission of the said offenses was planned and that the attack was more of a massacre. He added that he also agrees with prosecution Lawyer that majority of the convicts were youths who deserve to earn through legitimate means as opposed to occasioning robberies before handing each of the convict 35years in prison.
