    The Entebbe Resident Judge, Justice Flavia Nabakooza, on May 22, 2025, sentenced a committee member of Bulega LC1 zone in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso district, to 10 years in prison over murder of an innocent man whom they suspected to be a thief whereas not.

    The convict identified as Twahib Kasule, a committee member on Bulega LC1 zone in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso district, showed remorsefulness before Justice Flavia Nabakooza who convicted him of murder contrary to section 171&172 of the Penal code Act.

    Justice Flavia Nabakooza told court that since the convict showed remorse before her court and earlier on entered a plea bargaining agreement with his Lawyer and the state attorney on a 10 year- Jail sentence, her court exercised leniency and deducted the 5 years, 5months and 4 days spent on remand and that the convict will serve a sentence of 4 years, 6 months and 26 days. She, however told the convict that he has the right to appeal in the court of appeal within 14 days.

    Prosecution heard that on January 2, 2020, at Bulega LC1 cell in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso district, Kasule and others at large with malice aforethought murdered Shadrack Kato Magomu whom they suspected to be a thug whereas not.

    It’s reported that on the fateful day, a one Abaho and Godfrey found the deceased lying a few meters away from the home of Godfrey and suspected him to be a thief but didn’t beat him and opted to call Twahib Kasule one of the local council leaders who swiftly responded and received the deceased person – Shadrack Kato Magomu.

    The convict who was in company of goons currently on run dragged the deceased to the area defence secretary while seriously beating up the deceased person. The area defence secretary advised them to free the deceased person but they ignored his advice and instead took him back to Bulega trading center where they got him, but on their way they went on beating the deceased.

    The following day on January 3, 2020, the deceased was found in a bush lying lifeless. The matter was reported to the area LC1 chairperson who informed police and that in turn took the body to the City mortuary for a postmortem.

    The deceased’s body was examined by at the city mortuary and results indicated that the cause of death was due to internal and external injuries suffered from beatings. While the convict was examined on police form 24 and found to be 32years and of sound mind.

    Prior to sentencing the convict, his defence Lawyer, counsel Peruth Nshemeirerwe told court that he is a father of six children adding that he has been on remand for 5 years and 5 months and that during this period, he has been able to reform and repent his sins and asked court to grant him a lenient sentence.
