Police in Wakiso District have arrested 2 Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel over the killing of former Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) President, Robert Kagolo. Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire said Kagolo was shot dead by one of the LDU militants guarding his late brother’s home in Kasengeje in Wakiso District, central Uganda. The shooter has been identified as Rashid Mamuli. President Museveni is looking to appoint a new Ugandan ambassador to Angola after the former director of the Internal Security Organisation (ISO), Col Frank Kaka Bagyenda, turned down the job. In November 2020, Kaka did not turn up in Parliament’s Appointments Committee to be vetted for the job on the recommendation of the President. Rwanda received the first shipment of Covid-19 vaccines through the COVAX initiative on Wednesday. Launched in April 2020 by the World Health Organisation (WHO), COVAX brings together governments, global health organisation, manufacturers, scientists, private sector, civil society and philanthropy, with the aim of providing innovative and equitable access to COVID-19 diagnostics, treatments and vaccines. Government through the Ministry of Energy has announced resumption of the Electricity Connection Policy, which had been placed on hold since late last year. Under the policy which is being implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), government provides for free connections to the national grid for domestic users who need one pole or no pole at all.
