Over 20,000 residents in Entebbe and other surrounding areas have so far benefitted from the free yellow fever vaccination campaign that is being spearheaded by National Medical Stores in a bid to awaken Ugandans about the reality of the yellow fever disease.
Speaking to the media on Thursday during the ongoing yellow fever vaccination campaign at the Mayors Garden in Entebbe, National Medical Stores spokesperson, Sheila Nduhukire revealed that NMS has been running a yellow fever corporate social responsibility activity and added that other regions have also benefitted from the vaccination campaign.
Yellow fever vaccination is part of our annual corporate social responsibility flagship campaign. In March, we were in Arua and the previous years we have been in Kampala and Kamuli. Ugandans tend to be lax about the yellow fever vaccination and only wait when they are going to travel abroad to get vaccinated. Yellow fever disease is a reality and it kills and that’s why we want to encourage Ugandans out there to take advantage of the opportunity and get vaccinated free of charge before we end the exercise on Monday, Nduhukire said.
She added;
There has been a lot of enthusiasm towards yellow fever vaccination and we have had so many people come to get vaccinated. We are very glad that people have shown warmth and reception to this vaccination exercise and we are grateful that people have turned out in huge numbers to get vaccinated at the Mayors Garden. The vaccination exercise commenced on Thursday 19th August and we had initially planned for four days but because of the huge numbers, we decided to extend the free vaccination exercise till Monday August 30.
