In a bid to have a crime free town, the Entebbe Police force in conjunction with Entebbe Municipal Council has trained over 50 residents in crime prevention strategies and community based arbitration skills. Addressing the participants, the Entebbe Police community Liaison officer Sergeant Johnson Tenywa revealed that the sensitization workshop is aimed at bridging the gap between the police and the residents. He said that cooperation between the police and the residents is the way to go because residents and the public should be involved in their security.
He urged the participants to avoid taking matters in their own hands but instead share information with the police to ensure criminals are apprehended. He also appealed to the participants to be observant and report all suspicious persons in their different communities. Meanwhile all police officers who are involved in extorting money from suspects before they can give them police bond have been warned and the general public has been advised to report all police officers engaging in the vice because police bond is free of charge. The two day workshop climaxed on Friday at the Municipal Council and was attended by several senior citizens, Retired Government Civil Servants and LCI Chairpersons. The Entebbe Chief Magistrate Mary Kaitesi and Municipal Council Assistant Town Clerk Dan Lutaaya handed over certificates of appreciation to the participants who are expected to utilize the Arbitration skills in their different communities.
