Police has kick started the implementation of the Mayumba Kumi also known as Ten plus one Neighbhourhood Watch Program in Entebbe in a bid to foster and strengthen Security in the Municipality and the neigbouring areas. On Tuesday the Kampala Metropolitan South (KMP South) Police Commander Hajj Siraj Bakaleke rolled out the implementation of the Mayumba Kumi security program in Katabi Town Council with a mandatory registration exercise of all residences and people operating businesses along the Entebbe Main road beginning from Kitubuulu zones up to Akright in Namulanda zone.

Bakaleke who addressed all Police officers in Entebbe during a meeting that was held at Laquinta Bar shortly before the registration exercise warned the Police officers against dilly-dallying around on duty adding that any Police officer who will be caught dozing or lousing around on duty will be arrested and disciplined accordingly.

RPC Bakaleke made several stopovers in Abaita where he talked to the residents and business owners on security matters.

“We shall not entertain any nonsense from police officers who aren’t performing. All police officers need to be alert while on duty because when an incident happens we shall not listen to any excuses, the OC Station will be liable. Therefore you need to have the eyes on the ground patrolling and engaging all the locals because we have realized that the Mayumba Kumi security program is the medicine to solving high crime rate in Entebbe region. We have begun with Entebbe as a case study for the Mayumba Kumi and our target as Police is to roll out the program across the whole country”, Bakaleke told the Police officers.

Bakaleke who was accompanied by his deputy Francis Tumwesigye, Entebbe Divisional Police Commander DPC Godfrey Ninsiima, area OC Stations and local leaders during the registration exercise appealed to all Police officers to avoid rumor mongering “Wokoloso” and instead concentrate on serving Ugandans. He called on the Police officers to sensitize the locals on how to effectively use alarm systems such as sounding drums and blowing whistles to scare away thieves.

Bakaleke oversaw the implementation of Mayumba Kumi security program in Abaita Ababiiri zone in Katabi Town Council on Tuesday.
