Police boss Gen. Kale Kayihura has scoffed at embattled Ex-prime minister’s wife Jacqueline Mbabazi and the opposition for labeling him ‘Afande Teargas’. Kayihura who was speaking at the first ever ladies open Golf tournament held on Saturday 11th October at Palm valley Golf and country club where he was also chief Guest told guests that the police wouldn’t allow any criminal or subversive elements to destabilize the country.
“ Those People who call me ‘Afande Teargas’ are just propagandists and are just interested in tarnishing my good name and work” Kayihura told the guests.
“The President gave me the instruments of power during our (police) centenary celebrations and I’m not ready to allow any wrong elements destabilize the stable political atmosphere we are enjoying today” Kayihura added.
He urged all the golfing fraternity and the entire public to be security conscious and report all suspicious people in their communities.
“Most of you Golfers live in affluent neighborhoods Muyenga, Kankugulu estates, Kololo, Ntinda and you invest heavily in high perimeter wall fences but you forget that at one time you can be attacked by armed robbers along the way”, he warned.
“Imagine from the main road up to Palm valley golf and country club there aren’t security lights and no police booths to ensure security along the way” Kayihura warned.
He called for the establishment of a police barracks and police booth in Kankungulu where the prestigious palm valley golf and country club is located.
Kayihura stressed the importance of community policing in ensuring law and order in Uganda.
“Unlike the colonial police that instilled fear among the local residents, the current police is people friendly and the only way we can ensure law and order is by working with you (locals).” Kayihura continued.
He sounded a serious warning to drug traffickers who have made Uganda their safe haven for smuggling their drugs adding that such criminals would be seriously apprehended.
He urged the different investors to partner with the police to ensure law and order in Uganda. “I am inviting and urging all investors to partner with the police in areas such as provision of security lights” Kayihura stressed.
“I would like to see the entire Entebbe Road having security lights but because our (police) budget is small we can’t do some of these things. So any investor who wishes to partner with the police is welcome” Kayihura added.
He expressed his disappointment towards government’s failure to address the biting youth unemployment in the country adding that many young people had now turned to taking drugs and crime.
