Stars Otim Dickens and Pajije Sharon lived to their billing to bag their third Season Gold after winning the 3rd leg of the Castle Lite National Beach Volleyball Tour at Lido on Sunday and retaining their top spots in the men and women’s category respectively. Otim Dickens who paired for the first time with Omedo Isaac gunned down new kids on the block Imbayi Clayton / Mugisha Lionel in straight sets in the men’s final (2-0) 21-14, 21-9 while Pajije Sharon pairing with her 2014 partner Adeke Irene saw off Busingye Peace and Alupo Christine also in straight sets in the women’s ultimate game (2-0) 21-13, 21-14
Otim boasts of 520 season high points as men’s seed-one for the third year running and now equals the highest ever men’s season winner Nsubuga Hannington both at 3 seed-one titles in their careers. Pajije on the other hand with 510 points is making her second try as seed-one in the women’s category the first having been in 2011 with former partner Aketch Vivian. The ladies are yet to close in on record seed-one holder Dorothy Nampiima counting four titles procured in the early 2000s
The weekend tour enrolled 15 women’s teams and 13 men’s teams. The 1st Vice President of Uganda Volleyball Federation Godwin Ssenyondo accompanied by Patrick Ssebuliba the sports tutor of Nkumba University graced the awards ceremony where the top four teams received cash and accolades from Castle Lite.
Attention now turns to the Castle Lite International where Uganda will be eligible to field at least four teams per gender against its East African neighbors of Tanzania, Kenya, South Sudan, DRC, Rwanda and Burundi on the 6th and 7th December at Lido. National Coach Meya Sam now has his work wrapped in after closely watching his likely national squad contenders tussle it out for two days.
