Entebbe Municipality Mayoral Elections got underway today Wednesday on a peaceful and a calm note though the turn up has been largely low compared to the presidential and parliamentary elections. Incumbent Mayor Kayanja Vincent DePaul who is tussling it out with NRM’s Joseph Ssesanga is confident that he will sweep the polls with a landslide. Mayor Kayanja has attributed his confidence to the unity he has fostered in his first term.
So far the election process is smooth, the materials arrived on time and I’m confident I’ll win with a land slide because in my first term I’ve been able to serve the people of Entebbe Municipality without discriminating anyone. We have managed to tarmac a few roads and rid Entebbe of garbage, he told the press during shortly after casting his vote at St. Joseph’s Katabi Primary School at 10am.
He added:
In my second term in office I’ll focus on constructing a modern Market in Kitooro because the project has stalled for the last five years. I’ll also focus on renovating the taxi park in Kitooro plus constructing modern apartments where people can do business. I’ll also ensure that the Katabi and Manyango housing estates are completed because we believe the project will benefit all the people of Entebbe Municipality.
Meanwhile Joseph Ssesanga who cast his vote at Kiwafu Primary School polling station has promised to improve of household income by funding starting a SACCO were people will access loans. Ssesanga also rubbished accusations that during his term as LCIII Division ‘B’ Chairman he dubiously sold off land. He said that all those perpetrating the accusations should provide proof and evidence.
Let them provide a sales agreement that I dubiously sold land during my tenure as LCIII Chairman Division ‘B’. They are just making false allegations and political propaganda, Ssesanga said during an interview.
The other candidate in the mayoral race is FDC’s Miiro Kasozi.
