Following her appointment to the Parliamentary Climate Change Forum Committee, Entebbe Municipality Area Member of Parliament Hon. Rose Tumusiime has revealed that top on her priorities will be to roll out a massive tree planting campaign in Entebbe. Speaking exclusively to entebbenews Hon. Tumusiime revealed that the tree planting campaign will be rolled out in Primary and Secondary Schools in Entebbe because the young generation needs to be sensitized and educated about the importance of the environment.
Today Uganda’s forest cover is being depleted at an alarming rate due to rising need for Charcoal, Timber and several other reasons. Top on my priorities as a member of the Parliamentary Climate Change Committee I’ll work with different well wishers and partners to ensure that we plant trees in several schools in Entebbe, Hon. Tumusiime said.
Together with the well wishers and partners we shall organize sensitization workshops to train locals on how to turn waste and rubbish into cheaper and environmentally friendly fuel such as brickets other than using Charcoal, She added.
Hon. Tumusiime made the remarks while addressing women groups that had gathered at the Entebbe Municipal Council on Friday to receive the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program funds (UWEP). Out of the 291 women groups that had submitted their project proposals only four groups were successful. The successful groups include Virus Akwata Empola which received Seven Million Shillings (Shs7m) for their Poultry project, Katabi Busambaga Counter Book Making Enterprise received Six Million Shillings (Shs6m) for their Book Making project, Kiwafu Mushroom growers Association received Five Million and Five hundred thousand shillings (Shs5.5m) for Mushroom project and Mukisa Mpewo which received Four million Shillings (Shs4m) for their Poultry project.
Hon. Tumusiime appealed to the successful groups not to misuse the money adding that the group members will face severe consequences including being arrested for misusing government funds.
To the women groups that have received the Entrepreneurial funds don’t misuse the money because you will be arrested. Government is aware that so many groups have missed out but I appeal to them to be patient because there are women in other districts that need to benefit from the funds, Hon. Tumusiime warned.
Hon. Tumusiime promised to visit and monitor all the women groups to ensure that the women invest the funds wisely. She bashed parents who have neglected their responsibilities including looking after their Children. She revealed that several Children have been lured into joining homosexuality and criminal gangs like the swagger attackers.
The function was attended by Deputy Resident District Commissioner Rose Kirabira and State Minister for Primary Education Hon. Rose Sseninde.
