After missing out on the Government redevelopment market Program in 2011, Entebbe Kitooro Market vendors will in two years time start operating in a refurbished and modern market. The vendors who are operating in miserable and poor conditions in the current market have embraced the redevelopment plan.
Speaking during a consultative meeting that was held on Thursday with the Market vendors, Mayor Kayanja appealed to the market vendors to be united and speak with one voice during and after the redevelopment of the market is completed to avoid being cheated by crooks. Hon. Tumusiime urged the market vendors and Entebbe Municipality residents to embrace the project because the modern market will attract more customers especially those who leave Entebbe to go and shop in Nakasero Market.

Over 577 vendors who are operating in the current Kitooro Market will be relocated to Kiwafu Play Ground to pave way for the redevelopment of the market which will commence in February and will be completed in 2019. The Kitooro Market vendors Association Chairman Isabirye Marijan ‘Black’ revealed that they are very ready to shift and the redevelopment of the market was long overdue.
“We as Kitooro Market vendors are eagerly waiting for the modern market because we are operating in very miserable conditions. By January 30 we shall have relocated to Kiwafu Play Ground to pave way for the redevelopment of the market. I’m managing the whole process of relocating the vendors and I’ll manage the process when the vendors will be returning to the new market. I want to assure them (vendors) that the process will be fair and transparent”, Marijan Black told entebbenews.
