Entebbe International Airport will undergo a series of renovations in the next few months ahead of Pope Francis’ visit in November. Several facilities including the runway, car parking lot as well as lighting equipment and old buildings will be refurbished to enable the pontiff’s arrival in Uganda Fabulous. Civil Aviation Authority Executive Director Dr. Rama Makuza made the remarks on Thursday during Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala’s visit at the Airport to bless the preparations to welcome the Pope. Makuza also revealed that CAA in their next financial budget will build places of worship for all religious denominations. He noted that Muslims employed at the Airport as well as those transiting have no gazetted place of worship. The CAA top Boss also revealed that a modern cargo facility will be constructed to accommodate the increasing volumes of Cargo at the Airport.
His eminence Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala urged all Airport staff to pray for each other and remain united in Christ. The man of God planted a mango tree and blessed the newly opened car parking lot which will be increased to accommodate 160 cars from the 260 cars that were originally planned for. The ceremony was organized by the Entebbe Airport Catholic Chaplaincy who are also coordinating the Pope’s arrival at the Airport. Shs.706,400 was collected from the offertory and will be directed towards the renovation of Namugongo Martyrs Shrine ahead of the pontiff’s visit. Joseph Ssebayiga the Bugonga Parish Priest where among the few invited guests.
