After spending 10 months on the sidelines due to a knee Injury, Dorcus Inzikuru has resumed vigorous training ahead of the 2017 World Athletics Championships due to take place in London. Inzikuru who is eager to return to the Competitive Athletics stage on Tuesday braved the scorching sun and hit the 42km road distance from her Ntinda residence to Entebbe alongside one of her trainees Nathan Kato. The 34 year old former 3000m steeplechase champion fought hard to maintain a steady pace and occasionally made several stop overs to rest.

I’ve been off the Athletics scene for close to ten months due to an injury I sustained but I’m resuming my career and I’m targeting the World Championships in London. I run twice a week taking different routes including running to Entebbe, Mukono and Jinja. From Kampala to Entebbe we spend approximately 2hrs 47mins but today we had wanted to make 53kms by reaching the Airport but we are unable because I’m still recuperating from a knee Injury, a visibly worn-out told entebbenews.

Together with Nathan Kato they stopped at Shell Petrol Station in Entebbe Town, had some refreshments and boarded a taxi back to Kampala.

Inzikuru who is struggling to regain her long lost glory will participate in the MTN Marathon due in November, 21km China Marathon, 42km Marathon in Brighton, England, 21km in Czech Republic and 10km marathon in Torin Italy as build up marathons ahead of the August 2017 world 42km Championship in London.

I’ve a group of 20 boys from several districts including Bushenyi, Ntugamo, Mbarara, Arua and Central Region that I’m training to become Athletes and our cry is for government, Members of Parliament and well wishers to support us because we need help to succeed and make Uganda Proud, Inzikuru stated.

Inzikuru who is being trained by her Kenya based coach Renato Canova is fighting hard to reduce her weight from 51kgs to 45kgs.
