An armed robber identified as Joseph Kalema, a resident of Wantoni zone in Mukono district has been jailed 11years in Kigo prison after he was found guilty of aggravated robbery.

The convict was sentenced by Dr. Justice Joseph Murangira who informed court that prosecution had proved the case of aggravated robbery against the convict.

The convict and others still at large armed with two guns committed the offense on 11, January, 2013 at Serinya village in Wakiso district where they robbed David Kyanja who was driving a truck registration number UAK 495G containing 60bags of maize seeds, in addition to robbing him mobile phones and a wallet containing unspecified amount of money.

In his ruling, Justice Murangira, noted that cases of aggravated robbery are rampant in court’s jurisdiction and that there is need to pass a deterrent sentence against the perpetrators. He added that since the vehicle was recovered and returned to the owner the convict will serve 11years in prison in addition to compensating the complainant for a loss of Shs 8m for the 60bags of maize.
