ROAD TO 2016
The people of Entebbe should expect transparent and comprehensive leadership in me- Walusimbi Abubaker aspiring Member of Parliament Entebbe Municipality.
Who is Walusimbi Abubaker?
Walusimbi Abubaker has a simple profile. I was born 35 years ago to Mr. Badru Walusimbi who lives in Matugga. I hail from Mawokota. I have grown up in Entebbe; I studied my primary Education in Butambala and Namasuba then I came to Entebbe where I had both my O and A-level, fortunately I passed well.
I worked with Entebbe Handling Services Limited (ENHAS) as a casual for 18 months then I was promoted to the position of cargo clerk from there I joined KLM as cargo airline official. I was pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Arts in Arts while working at the same time, I specialized in communication skills and Human Resource, and currently I am finalizing my Masters degree in Diplomacy at Uganda Martyrs University. I have had a lot struggles in my Education, my uncles and good Samaritans supported me in my secondary school studies.
I am married with children, I reside in Katabi Busambaga. I believe I am hardworking; I have several businesses, joints and partnerships.
Why should the people of Entebbe entrust you with their votes in 2016?
One I am the picture they would love to see, I am the motivation that requires the youth and parents who would wish to see their children progress. I love to see young people progress. I believe I have the confidence and ability to lead the people of Entebbe and I would also like to urge people to interview seriously those aspiring to lead them so as to get the right leaders. In politics we should never underrate our opponents
Why have you chosen to run on the DP ticket?
I have been a member of the Democratic Party ever since I started understanding Ugandan politics. In 2000 me and other young democratic party members initiated Entebbe Municipality Member of Parliament Mohamed Kawuma and Mayor Vincent Kayanja DePaul and since then I have been an active member of the Democratic Party. Back then we ensured that Kabuye faced a lot of resistance.
So how are you selling your candidacy?
So far it is still mouth to mouth, currently we are now in “Kakuyenge”.
Many times ordinary voters have complained about leaders whom they support and vote but end up forgetting them. What’s your view?
In my view I blame the voters for failing to spot and vote the right leaders. The ordinary voters want “Akandondi dance” and gifts not issues. I believe I am good enough to add value in parliament. The people of Entebbe should assess my background and the words I am trying to put on the platform.
As an aspiring leader how should youth unemployment problem be solved?
There is need to nurture talent and skills in the youth. I have started ventures that have created jobs for the youth and many of my supporters know that I am doing my best to deal with unemployment among the youth.
You talk about nurturing talent and skills in the youth. How do you hope to achieve that?
In my view I believe there is need to have seminars periodically in which the youth interact with renowned entrepreneurs who can teach and lecture them on how to become job creators through starting small businesses.
Many times ordinary voters have come out and said that the huge remuneration MP’s receive should be cut. What’s your take?
The outcry has to be there. They ask for too much pay to meet the demands of the constituencies such as fulfilling pledges and promises which may include paying school fees and other bills for constituencies, burial arrangements and condolences, fundraising luncheons. But it’s role of Government to find a systematic way of facilitating the constituencies in order to reduce pressure on the Members of parliament. It’s one of the challenges that I’ll address if the people of Entebbe grant me the opportunity to lead them in parliament.
What is your message to the people of Entebbe Municipality?
They should expect transparent and comprehensive leadership. In me they will vote a person who possess skills and abilities that can add value to our areas. I have so many ideas that can add value to our nation. I believe I am energetic and still in the working age with the brain and desire to add value to our nation.
