
After successfully acquiring a modern linear accelerator Machine used in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, Rotary fraternity in Uganda has now set it’s target on completing the bunker which will house the machine.
Speaking during the launch of the second Rotary Cancer Run in Entebbe on Saturday, Patrick Kunobwa, the Chairman Cancer Run 2017 said that the Cancer Run which started six years ago has among others realized the construction of a cancer ward in Nsambya Hospital, construction of a blood bank in Mengo, the Purchase of a Linear accelerator Machine and now completing the USD 1million bunker is their main focus.
Sylivia Nabakende, the Centenary Bank Branch Manager, Kawuku, said that Centenary Bank is honored to be part of the fight against cancer. She said that Centenary Bank will continue participating in activities that raise awareness and prevent the scourge of Cancer because more and more numbers are going for cancer testing and people are changing their lifestyles.

Centenary Bank, a main partner of Rotary Uganda has continuously donated Shs250million for rotary activities with Shs130million being set aside for the cancer run. Parliament of Uganda has also boosted the cancer run with a contribution of Shs449million with each Member of Parliament contributing a sum of Shs1million.
On her part, Hon. Rose Tumusiime who led the cancer awareness walk around Entebbe on Saturday and officially launched the Cancer Run 2017 Entebbe Chapter at the Mayors Gardens thanked Rotary fraternity in Uganda for their continuous campaign about cancer and called on Ugandans to participate in the fundraising activities for the bunker because cancer affects all people and not just the rich as it used to be in the past. She urged the Rotary fraternity to take the cancer awareness campaign to schools because young people need to know about cancer before it’s too late.

The Rotary cancer run will be held on August 27, 2017 at the Kololo independence grounds and as the norm has been other districts where Rotary club operates including Entebbe will also hold their cancer run concurrently.
