

Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Hon. Betty Amongin Akena has warned all Road Contractors in Uganda against delivering substandard roads. Amongin who was speaking during the commissioning of Phase 1A of the completed roads constructed under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructural Development program (USMID) in Entebbe Municipality underscored the need for contractors to consistently deliver uncompromised infrastructure and roads under the program. She said that her Ministry will offer the necessary technical support to ensure sustainability of the project. Amongin appealed to all political leaders in Entebbe to support the program adding that government is moving towards a middle income country.
Politicking is now over. It’s now time to work. Let us all put our differences aside and support government to deliver on it’s manifesto and programs, Amongin said.
She commended the World Bank for the financial and technical support and the Entebbe Municipal council for successfully accounting for the funds.
The completed works under phase 1A included rehabilitation of church road (2.072km), Fulu Road (0.171km), Basudde Rise (0.32km) and Nyondo Close (0.130km). The works were completed on the September 30, 2015 at a tune of Shs 9,025,275,297 under a loan facility from the World Bank with counterpart funding from the Government of Uganda.
Under phase 1B, Entebbe Municipal Council shall rehabilitate a network of roads in Kitooro Sub-ward that include Serumaga road (0.1km), Mwawula road (0.119km0, Lutwama Road (0.407km) and Gabuga road (0.341km) at a cost of Shs 4,998,693,955 under similar funding arrangements.
