The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen. Kale Kayihura has said that the Uganda Police Force will reward all the security look-out teams involved in the implementation of the “Mayumba Kumi” or Neighborhood watch. Kayihura who was addressing kasenyi residents on Thursday over the rampant murders in Katabi Town Council stated that the voluntary look-out teams are working alongside Police to strengthen security in their respective villages.
“Police is grateful for the wonderful job the security look-out teams are playing in their respective villages. We have resolved as Police to reward them with Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) Projects and we shall begin with the look-out teams in Katabi Town Council and Nansana as Pilot projects and thereafter we shall roll out the projects to other teams across the country. We have also resolved to support the most at risk Population (prostitutes) with the Operation Wealth Creation projects because many of them are victims. The youth and fishermen who previously engaged in illegal fishing will also be supported because majority are jobless and engage in crime,” Kayihura disclosed.
Kayihura disclosed that phase 1 is about hunting for the criminals who have killed the women and preventing more murders and thereafter Phase 2 will be about building Income generating projects for the community.

Without mincing words, Kayihura bashed Daily Monitor for what he described as Propaganda articles on the rampant murders of women. He said that the Daily Monitor is intent on portraying a bad image of the Uganda Police by publishing senseless and propagandist articles on the murders of women and Girls. Kayihura instructed the Daily Monitor to leave the Uganda Police alone or else they will be charged with obstruction of Justice.
Kayihura revealed that a total of 16 suspects are in jail over the murders of women and Police has got significant clues on the motives of the killers. He disclosed that a one Phillips Tumuhimbise alias Kanyakole was arrested in connection to the murders of 8 women in Nansana after a suspect confessed he was hired by Kanyakole to murder the women.
