

The ruling National Resistance Movement Party in Entebbe scored a decisive victory after long serving councilor Penina Rutagarukayo Kasaija was resoundingly elected the Entebbe Municipal Council Speaker for the period 2016-2021. Penina Kasaija who is the Nakasamba, Kitaasa, Kakeeka, Nsamizi and Bugonga Area LCIV Councilor beat Katabi women LCIV Area councilor and incumbent speaker Annet Balega in a heated race that was held at the Municipal Council on Tuesday. Penina Kasaija garnered 12 votes while Annet Balega (DP) garnered 09 votes.
In her victory speech, Penina Kasaija thanked the Almighty God for giving her a second chance as speaker, a post she held from 2001 to 2006. She urged all the Municipal Council leaders to put aside their political affiliations and work as a team for the good of the people of Entebbe Municipality.
I would like to thank God for bouncing back as speaker and I promise I’ll not let you down. I’m a very impartial and flexible person who always seek for advice where need arises. My humble appeal to my fellow leaders is let’s put our political affiliations aside and work for the good of the people of Entebbe Municipality. The time for political games is over and now it’s time for action, Newly elected speaker Penina Kasaija stated.
Penina Kasaija will be deputized by Modesta Tezityabiiri, women councilor for the disabled also from the NRM. Margaret Masembe (NRM) and women Councilor for the elderly was voted Finance Committee Chairperson. She garnered 11 votes while her closest challenger and Katabi LCIV Area councilor Innocent Sewakambo garnered 09 votes. Jimmy Mutabazi (NRM), defeated incumbent works committee chairperson Amos Byansi (DP) and Kiwafu West/ East LCIV Area Councilor in a heated race. Mutabazi garnered 10 votes while Amos Byansi garnered 09 votes. The Kiwafu West and Kiwafu East Area LCIV women Councilor Assumpta Nakamya (DP) got only 01 vote.


Mayor Kayanja appointed his Executive committee which comprises of Kigungu Ward LCIV Councilor Richard Sekyondo (DP) as the new Deputy Mayor. He replaces Simon Kimanye who was defeated in the DP Primaries by Maggwa Ssali on the Entebbe Municipality LCV Division ‘B’ Seat. Lugonjo- Nakiwogo LCIV Councilor Twaha Kikomeko (DP) was appointed secretary for gender, women and Youth affairs. Fred Kiryowa and Councilor for the disabled (Men) was appointed secretary for works, Balega Annet (Health) while Mayor Kayanja appointed himself secretary for finance.
