High Court that was presided over by Dr. Justice Joseph Murangira on Friday handed a 26-year jail sentence to Andrew Kikonyogo who has been robbing locals in Entebbe Municipality with deadly weapons.
The convict was sentenced to prison after court found him guilty of robbing Teddy Nakweesi two mobile phones, two chargers, an identity card and a wallet containing Shs 200,000, in addition to cutting her left hand with a panga and knife during the robbery that occurred on 27, May, 2015 at Kiwafu Central zone in Entebbe Municipality.
His Lordship Justice Murangira told court that the convict’s defense was a mere denial and that he concurs with the joint opinion of the two assessors that prosecution proved the case against the convict beyond reasonable doubt.
While delivering his verdict, the Judge noted that the victim was disfigured and needs Shs70m to be treated abroad which appears to be a nightmare since she has no money to get treatment.
He added that the convict has not been remorseful throughout the court trial and that the citizens of Uganda need to be protected from wrong doers before sentencing the convict to rot 26 years in jail.
