The Inter-University Beach Soccer League came to a climax on Sunday with MUBS claiming their second league title. They thumped Nkumba University (3-2) in a penalty shootout after the match ended in a 4-4 draw.
MUBS maintained a clean sheet in the two day tournament that was held at Lido Beach Entebbe. They beat Mutesa I Royal University (9-3). Other results MUBS-KIU (4-2), and
MUBS – BISHOP STUART 2(2) – 2(1) penalties, MUBS –BUSOGA (8-1) to top Group B and in the semi-finals MUBS beat MUK (8-4) to reach their second finals in the third Edition of the Inter-University Beach Soccer tournament.
Nkumba University beat Kampala International University (4-3) to reach their first ever final in the Inter-University tournament.
Shortly after being declared champions MUBS head Coach Charles Ayeka attributed the team’s success to early organization and preparation.
“Our early organization and preparation has enabled the team to win this tournament in 2013 and now 2014”, Ayeko told entebbenews.
“Though MUBS has been crowned 2014 champions, there is need to improve in the goal keeping position” he noted.
He urged FUFA Administration to provide the teams with a bus to enable them move easily to Lido Beach where the trainings are conducted.
Mean while MUB’s Brian Nkuubi was named the most valuable Player and top scorer after he scored a total of 17 goals in the two day tournament. In the fair play award category Bishop Stuart University scooped the award for their outstanding fair play during the two-day tournament.
MUBS will be facing Kyambogo University in the Inter-University Football League Finals at Namboole on November 8. Entrance is free.
