Curtains came down in the Pepsi Beach League on Sunday at Lido Beach with high flying Nakawa based Makerere University Business School (MUBS) clinching their second title. MUBS came from behind to overcome Stormers (7-5) who were proving to be a hard nut to crack. Brian Nkuubi scored two hat tricks while Sulaiman Ochero scored the single goal to give MUBS the decisive victory. MUBS who finished the league unbeaten walked away with a league title, a cash prize of Shs 2 million and automatically qualified for the EAST AFRICA COPA CLUB BEACH SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP scheduled to take place next month. Goals for stormers came from Mathias Kigonya (4) and Kakwaya Swaibu (1). They walked away with a cash prize of Shs 1.5 million.
MUBS saw off Nkumba Select in a 10-7 goal thrilling action in the semifinals. Maxwell Okello (1), Brian Nkuubi (6), Benson Ocen (2) and Sulaiman Ochero (2) were on the score sheet for MUBS. Goals for Nkumba Select came from Douglas Muganga (3), Roch Somoka (3), Muwawu Faizal (1).
In the other semifinal match Stormers edged Real Galacticos 7-5. Mathias Kigonya scored two braces while Dengere Ibrahim scored twice and Katende Misi scored the single goal. Goals for Real Galacticos came from John Revita (2), Kafeero Hamis (2) and Denis Sserukwaya (1).
In the third place play off Nkumba Select beat Real Galacticos 5-4 to finish in third position. Faizal Muwawu (1), Somoka Roch (1), Douglas Muganga (2) and an own goal from Sentongo Juma sealed Nkumba select’s victory. They walked away with a cash prize of Shs 1 million. Goals for Real Galacticos came from Ssentongo Juma who scored a hat trick while Denis Sserukwaya scored the single goal.
MUBS Head Coach Charles Ayeko praised his team for their outstanding and excellent performance throughout the entire season.
“I would like to thank the players for the team spirit and for being strong hearted throughout the entire season. I also want to thank the coaching staff and University Management for a job well done” Ayeko said.
