Lugazi based Mehta club Golfers triumphed over their Entebbe counterparts in the Inaugural Entebbe Golf Club Vs Lugazi Golf Club Championship that was held at Entebbe Golf Course. Mehta Club Golfers walked away with the trophy after they amassed a total of 22.5 points after playing a total of 54 holes that included Four ball Better Ball competition, Foursomes and Singles match play competitions. Entebbe finished with a total of 18.5 points.

Golfers from either side had to endure the heavy downpour on day one (Friday) to keep focused on the prize and it was the Mehta Golfers who clinched day one’s first 18 holes four ball Better Ball competition with 6 points while Entebbe finished with 4 points.  Some of the outstanding players from Mehta Golf Club included Nampewo Julia and Chandiru Phoebe who edged Birabwa Frista and Bako Rukia 9&8 while Kabise Canary and Eyoyo Rodgers beat Moko Emmanuel and Matovu Bulhan 5&4. Entebbe’s Mugomola Aaron and Kato Samuel defeated Muhammadu Adam and Kasangaki Clovis 5&3 while Kamoga Brian and Baguma Chris defeated Aliga Brian and Adiya Henry 5&4.

In the foursomes competition, Entebbe lost to Mehta Golf Club with a difference of 1.5 points as Mehta Golf Club finished 10.5 points.

On day two (Saturday), the singles match play competition, Mehta’s Bako Loyce, Chandiru Phoebe and Muhammudu Adam beat their Entebbe Counterparts Kwagala Cathy, Nambalirwa Diana and Mugabe Brian with 7&6, 7&6 and 6&5 respectively.

Despite the defeat, Entebbe Golf Club had plenty of positives to pick up from the Inaugural Championship after a number of Junior Golfers showcased their golfing skills and according to Kato Davis, the Entebbe Golf Club Junior Golfers Coach, revealed that all the Junior Golfers need is to constantly train and practice so as to improve their Golf.

The youngsters that featured for Entebbe Golf Club included Baluku Joel, Gumisiriza Julius, Kiirya Musa, Kansiime Robert, Birabwa Frista, Nambalirwa Diana, Bako Rukia, Thembo Elton, Mugabe Brian and Moko Emmanuel.

The Uganda Golf Union President Innocent Kihika while handing over the trophy to Mehta Club Golfers implored the tournament organizers to ensure that every holiday the tournament is held and immediately called for a return leg in Lugazi.
