Kenya yet again proved it’s golfing prowess on the East African Continent after it defeated arch-rivals Uganda in the second Edition of the Victoria Cup at the Par 71 Entebbe Golf Course. After a three day grueling golfing action, Kenya garnered a total of 14 points beating Uganda by two points that finished with a total of 12 points. Kenya successfully defended the Victoria Cup trophy that it won at the Inaugural Edition at the Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi last year.
Team Kenya Captain Alfred Nandwa heaped praise on the new coach John Van Leafland for instilling a winning attitude and mentality among the players.
“I would like to thank our coach John Van Leaf Land for instilling in us a winning attitude and mentality. He is a very principled coach and I’m glad that his toughness has paid off. We have been practicing very hard for the tournament because we know Uganda isn’t a simple team. I’m happy that Uganda has added the subsidiary event to the tournament and we shall also add a subsidiary event in the third Edition in Kenya because our focus is to ensure that the tournament grows”, a jovial Alfred Nandwa told the 19th hole gallery.
Though Uganda failed to win the tournament, it did show case one talented golfer, David Kamulindwa who at 15 years made his debut for the senior national team and ably stood out thanks to his incredible golfing skills. The Uganda Golf Union President Johnson Omollo awarded him with a school fees bursary for one term.
“I’ve been practicing very hard right from the time I started playing golf two years ago after my brother Adolf Muhumuza introduced me to the sport at Toro Club. I had a very good tournament and right now I’m focusing my attention on the Uganda Open”, David Kamulindwa, senior three student (S.3) at Mpanga S.S told entebbenews.

Uganda Wins Migingo Cup Subsidiary Event.
Despite losing in the main Victoria Cup event, Uganda managed to earn a consolation trophy after they defeated their Kenyan counterparts to lift the Subsidiary Migingo Cup. Uganda returned a total of 8.5 points to lift the trophy while Kenya returned a total of 7.5 points. A total of 16 teams participated in the subsidiary event that was played in the four ball better ball format.
