The Uganda Peoples Defence Airforce (UPDAF) Army Chief Of Staff Brig. James Birungi has warned junior army officers to desist from acts of indiscipline if they are to succeed in their careers. Brig. Birungi who presided over the piping ceremony of newly promoted UPDAF Soldiers at the UPDAF Headquarters on Tuesday noted that some soldiers and army officers are so ambitious and keep pestering the top Army commanders for promotions and juicy positions. Brig. Birungi appealed to the ambitious soldiers to always work hard and perform their duties wholeheartedly adding that promotions in the army are based on merit by the top army commanders and promotions Board.
He congratulated all the newly promoted officers and urged them to remain morally upright and exemplary in their lives adding that promotions come with new tasks and responsibilities. He appealed to all the aged army officers to be ready to retire so as to give room to other officers. Brig. Birungi called on all the army officers and soldiers to engage in physical fitness exercises and always monitor their health.
Two were promoted to the rank of colonel; four were promoted to the rank of lieutenant Colonel, 29 to lieutenant and four to Second lieutenant. The promotion also included veteran NRA Bush fighter Amos Mukiibi who was promoted from the rank of Major to lieutenant Colonel and Uganda’s renowned lady Golfer Flavia Namakula who turned Professional.
