Renowned socialite Sheilah Gashumba has opened up about why she does not refer to her stepmother, Malaika, as “mother,” pointing to their age difference as a key reason.
Since her father, Frank Gashumba, married Patience Mutoni Malaika, Sheilah has maintained that she will not address her as her mother.
She has consistently emphasized that the title “mum” is reserved exclusively for her biological mother, urging critics to respect her stance.
Speaking in an interview with YouTuber Kasuku, Sheilah further explained that the age gap plays a significant role in her decision, noting that she is older than Malaika, which makes it difficult for her to adopt that form of address.

“Malaika is even younger than me, so how do I call someone younger than me ‘Mum’? Let’s leave all the formalities because respect has to be earned, my mum literally carried me for nine months, gave birth to me, and then I must go and call another person mum.”

Sheilah further made it clear that even her mother’s current husband, she addresses him by his name, noting that she finds it hard to give him the father title.
