Twenty teams, one community, and a lot of young talent waiting for a fair chance. That is the story behind the football tournament in Katanga, Kampala, sponsored by Pepeta Bets Uganda in support of the Daddy Kim Foundation. The tournament starts on Monday, 9 November 2026.
Every one of the 20 participating teams has received a full set of soccer uniforms and soccer balls, so players can step onto the pitch looking and feeling like real competitors. The organisers also received a UGX 20 million package from Pepeta Bets Uganda. This article explains why we backed the tournament and what football can do for a community like Katanga.
Why Pepeta Bets Uganda is supporting the Katanga football tournament
Pepeta Bets Uganda is a Ugandan sports betting and gaming company, and football is at the centre of what we do. Our customers follow the game closely, and many of us grew up kicking a ball in the street. When the Daddy Kim Foundation shared its plan for a community tournament in Katanga, supporting it was an easy decision.
The Foundation works with young people in Katanga. We wanted to help turn that work into something players could see and touch: proper kits, proper balls and a proper tournament.
What the sponsorship covers
Pepeta Bets Uganda supplied equipment to all 20 teams taking part and gave a package to the organisers:
| Item | Given to | Why it matters |
| Soccer uniforms | All 20 teams | A matching kit gives a team identity and pride. |
| Soccer balls | All 20 teams | Teams can practise often and play proper matches. |
| UGX 20 million package | The tournament organisers | Supports the organisers in running the tournament. |
The kit sounds simple, but kit and equipment are often what stands between a talented player and a place on a team. A good ball and a matching jersey give a team a reason to turn up and train.
Football as a tool for fighting crime in Katanga
Idle time is one of the biggest challenges facing young people in crowded urban communities. When there is nothing structured to do, some young people drift toward trouble. Organised sport offers a better route.
What a tournament gives young people
- A reason to train. Teams practise, plan and stay focused on the next match.
- Positive role models. Coaches, captains and organisers show what discipline and teamwork look like.
- A sense of belonging. Being part of a team gives young people a community they want to protect.
- Rivalry that stays on the pitch. Competition between neighbourhoods plays out in a match, with a handshake at the final whistle.
Football will not solve every problem in Katanga, but a busy, motivated young person is far less likely to be pulled toward crime. That is the idea behind this tournament.

Discovering and growing football talent in Kampala
Uganda has no shortage of football talent. What many players lack is exposure. Some of the most gifted players in Kampala’s communities are never seen by a scout because they never play in an organised, visible competition.
A 20-team tournament changes that. Matches draw spectators, coaches and local football people. Players who stand out can be noticed, invited for trials and guided toward academies and clubs. Even for those who do not turn professional, the experience builds confidence, fitness and leadership skills that carry into school, work and family life.
A community event for all of Katanga
Beyond the players, the tournament brings the whole community together. Families, friends and neighbours come to cheer, and local small businesses benefit from the crowds. It shows what can happen when a local foundation, a company and a community pull in the same direction.
