

With the February 18 General elections around the corner, candidates who are vying for the different political offices are on the campaign trail hunting for votes and marketing their manifestos to the electorate. In Entebbe Municipality the National Resistance Movement is seeking to regain the constituency that it lost to the Democratic Party in the 2011 polls. Rose Tumusiime who emerged flag bearer for the Municipality MP seat is leading the frontline and her success in the polls will affect other NRM Candidates at the different levels. In

a different turn of events Incumbent Member of Parliament Honorable Muhammad Kawuma has put behind his weight behind Rose Tumusiime to take over from him after the February 18 polls. Hon. Kawuma who joined parliament on the Democratic Party ticket has raised eyebrows over his decision to support the ruling NRM Party. Hon. Kawuma’s decision to support the NRM comes after his fall out with Mayor Kayanja and the entire Democratic Party leadership in Entebbe. Hon. Kawuma and Mayor Kayanja fell out after the 2011 elections and since then the two leaders have traded accusations against one another.
At an NRM campaign rally that was held in Banga – Nakiwogo on Sunday Hon. Kawuma’s wife Marjorie represented him though she didn’t make any address. Highly placed sources have revealed that Hon. Kawuma detests Mayor Kayanja and he is fighting tooth and nail to ensure that he and his team don’t return to office.
Hon. Kawuma and Mayor Kayanja have been at Loggerheads since the 2011 general elections and their feud has only escalated with Hon. Kawuma deciding to join the NRM to fight Kayanja and his team. A source in the NRM Party said.
Hon. Kawuma is also backing NRM’s Joseph Ssesanga on the Mayorship Position.
However the Democratic Party has remained strong and vibrant even with departure of Hon. Kawuma who was believed to be their Master Planner and chief Decision Maker.
We (Democratic Party) aren’t affected at all by Hon.Kawuma’s departure to the NRM because he once belonged there. He thought he would dictate everything for us but we refused. The party is even much stronger and vibrant without him. DP Publicist Maggwa Ssali told entebbenews.
