Katikiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga has revealed that Pallaso was never knighted, as the media portrays it.
Pallaso, two years ago, bragged about being the first artist to be recognized and appreciated by the Kabaka of Buganda and given the honor of ‘Sir’.
In an exclusive interview with Sanyuka TV, Katikiro made it clear that Pallaso was just invited to perform at the Kabaka’s interview. He, however, was not knighted as he claimed before the media.
Listing the criteria the Kabaka uses to knight people, Owek. Mayega explained that the title was given to figures who are well deserving, depending on how they act and carry themselves.
Several artists, including Mathias Walukagga, Mesach Ssemakula, Paul Saaka, Afrigo Band, and Moses Matovu, have all been knighted by the Kabaka.

Katikiro explained that Mesach Semakula was given the title because he sang songs that motivated the youths. He was also a good example for fellow artists and has never been involved in any fights or used obscene language.
“There is also an artist that I saw recently embarrassing herself in front of the camera; Ssemakula has never been associated with such behavior,” he said.

For Walukagga, he has sung songs praising and honouring the kingdom. According to Katikiro, he teaches the youths to love their kingdom, as almost 90% of his songs are about Buganda.
“There is something he adds to the youths. He is a perfect example of a youth who treasures their culture. Being traditional doesn’t take away your style. He was knighted because the kingdom was thanking him for that,” he noted.
