Popular actress Fauziah Nakiboneka stunned listeners when she revealed that she was initially a rapper before pursuing her acting career.
Fauziah is one of the longest-serving Ebonies actresses and has been on television for close to twenty years. In an exclusive interview with Mr. Henrie, she opened up about her life as a dramatist, noting that she auditioned as an artist in the group.
From childhood, Fauziah was sure she would be an artist one day, and she constantly practiced with her siblings on funky beats. She was good at beatboxing, singing, and writing her songs. She composed songs about Street Children and HIV AIDS, among others, and by the time she finished her O-level, she had a book full of different songs.
Even with the desire to pursue music at a professional level, Fauziah was limited by resources, especially for studio sessions, which she said were expensive.
She recounts one day going to mingle with the big stars on CBS upon Shanks Vivie D’s invitation, but unfortunately, she gave up after being tossed around.

This threw her off, forcing her to concentrate on her studies. Immediately after she completed her A-level, Fauziah says she stormed the Ebonies’ VCL studios seeking a chance to sing in some of their plays.
“I needed to do something with my life, and I went to VCL studios. Linked with Nakawunde outside and I couldn’t believe it. I was surprised to see her there because she was a very big actress. I approached the studios and told them about my desire to sing because I believed I would add something on the Ebonies,” she said.

At first, luck was not on Fauziah’s side because they mainly scouted for talents with softer voices. While she was looking for ways to be outstanding and capture their attention, she performed a rap verse on the Ebonies’ introductory song, ‘Full of Excitement’. When the production team heard her rapping skills, they invited her to the video shoot, and that is how she got acquainted with the group.
Fauziah confessed that she was pushed to audition for an acting job even when uninterested.
“I did not love acting. It was never my first love. I loved singing so much. They auditioned me and at first, I pretended to be so sick, but they insisted that I would do the parts. That is how I started acting. I grew to love and I enjoyed it so much and even forgot about singing,” she said.
