Over 100 opposition diehards and supporters in Entebbe held demonstration around Kitooro on Wednesday over the removal of the Age limit in the constitution. Meddie Bawonga, the Kiwafu Central LC3 Councilor, a member of the Democratic Party and the chief organizer of the Demonstrations indicated that the people of Entebbe including the youth are against the removal of article 102(b) in the constitution which bars any candidate beyond the age of 75 Years from contesting for the Presidency.
Bawonga revealed that it is high time President Museveni handed over power peacefully adding that Uganda isn’t a Kingdom where power is hereditary.
“Many of us the youth have been born in Museveni’s regime, we have grown up into adults and have produced children in Museveni’s regime. We aren’t ready to see our children suffer under Museveni’s regime because the economy is in shambles and the levels of unemployment keep skyrocketing. We shall continue to demonstrate against the removal of the age limit in the constitution because we want President Museveni to leave power peacefully”, Bawonga stated.
He added;
We have already informed Police about our Demos that we shall be holding around Entebbe and even if they arrest us, we shall not give up on our cause because we want every Ugandan regardless of Political party, religious affiliation and tribe to come out and support us.
Meanwhile the Entebbe NRM Party Spokesperson Figo Matovu has bashed the anti-age limit removal agitators whom he described as confused people with no serious agenda. Figo disclosed that with the removal of the age limit in the constitution, any able bodied Ugandan with leadership potential will be accorded the opportunity to contest for any position regardless of age.
