Entebbe Municipality local council elections that were scheduled to be held Today Wednesday March 9 were abruptly cancelled after four ballot boxes arrived last night at Entebbe Police Station without seals. The two unsealed ballot boxes were for virus and St. Joseph’s Katabi Primary School polling stations in Division ‘A’ while the other two were for Kiwafu west and Comprehensive S.S polling Stations in Lugonjo-Nakiwogo Division ‘B’. And to make matters worse upon verification Kiwafu West ballot papers were mixed with ballot papers of Lugonjo-Nakiwogo while ballot papers for Mayanzi zone in Kigungu were mixed with ballot papers for Kitooro Central. Also upon verification an excess of 250 ballot papers for the LCIII Chairpersons were discovered than the actual 850 ballots that had been printed.

Upon noticing the Election irregularities NRM Party candidates vying for LCIII Council seats and LCIII Chairpersons began pointing fingers at Democratic Party’s Stanley Namayirira who is vying for the LCIII Division ‘B’ Chairperson seat for having a sinister plot to rig the polls. Tempers flared as NRM Candidates and supporters accused DP of conniving with police and EC’s Dorothy Makanga to play a high level vote rigging game.

However Stanley Namayirira who was present at the scene laughed off the accusations and said that his opponents are already scared of defeat.

Why we do I rig the elections? My opponents are concocting stories because they know they are losing. It’s not true that I’ve rigged the elections, all we want is a fair, free and transparent process, Namayirira said.
