The Entebbe Airport Stakeholders Football League Manager Edward Mugyenyi was on Wednesday officially relieved of his duties after it emerged that he swindled Shs4.5m league cash. The foxy fella was pinned down over pocketing the Shs4.5m dime meant to run the league. The newly appointed league manager Tom Byarugaba pointed fingers at Edward Mugyenyi after he failed to give accountability for the Shs4.5m dime in addition to messing up the whole league.
The league sponsors Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) got pissed off over the matter and withdrew their sponsorship after it emerged that there was no transparency and accountability in the league.
We decided to relieve Edward Mugyenyi of his duties as Entebbe Airport League Manager because he misappropriated Shs4.5m cash meant to run the league. Mugyenyi has been running the league in a very unprofessional way with no accountability, Byarugaba revealed.
We disbanded the past management and we are currently rebuilding the league. Defending Champions Special Forces Command (SFC) were unable to take part this time because they had so many engagements. Fresh Handling will take on Lake Victoria Hotel (Laico) on October 3 in the first semifinal lash and On October 4, Airforce will take on Protea Hotel in the second semifinal clash and the finals will be played on October 14. All the matches will be played at the Entebbe Airport Grounds, Byarugaba added.
Protea Hotel Deputy Managing Director Harice Sharon pledged to bring onboard other sponsors including Pepsi and Coca Cola on board. She also revealed that Protea Hotel will sponsor a new league trophy from South Africa.
Other teams that withdrew from the Entebbe Aiport stakeholders’ league include Das Handling, Airport Taxi, UCIFA and ENHAS.
