Former Permanent Secretary to the Treasury, Chris Kassami is dead. Kassami passed away in a Nairobi Hospital where he’d been referred after a long illness. For over 20 years, Kassami served as PS to the Treasury, Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development of Republic of Uganda.
In 2013, he retired from the Ministry at the age of 65 years. In the same year, he was appointed the Airtel Board Chairman. The deceased was a holder of a BA Economics from University of Dar Es Salaam.
While serving as secretary to the Treasury, supplementary budgets had been on a steady increase. His tenure had also been marred by two huge scandals: the Shs169 billion Public Service pension scam and the theft of more than Shs50 billion in the Office of the Prime Minister. Kassami also worked in the Ministries of Education and that of Transport where he spearheaded the Road Formation Unit. He was also member of Entebbe Club.
