Democratic Party flag bearer Michael Kakembo Mbwatekamwa has promised to be a voice of the UPDF once elected to parliament. Mbwatekamwa who was addressing a campaign rally on Saturday in Katabi ward said that majority of the soldiers are living in very deplorable conditions and earn very meager salaries.
I’ll ensure that soldiers get a pay rise and I’ll fight for their welfare because many of them are living in very deplorable conditions. The army representatives in Parliament only serve President Museveni’s interests and haven’t been of any use to their fellow soldiers who are always on the frontline fighting and defending the nation, Kakembo said.
Kakembo also pledged to end discrimination in the army. He said that promotions in the army are based on ethnicity.
He promised to work with relevant authorities in State House and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to give priority to Entebbe residents when job opportunities arise. He noted that the biggest majority of employees in State House and CAA reside in Kampala, a matter he will address once elected to parliament.
He also promised to address the challenge of work experience that employers demand from job applicants. He said that many university graduates don’t have jobs because employers demand for experience which they don’t necessarily have. He promised to have it scrapped once elected to parliament.
He promised to promote the sport of Boxing among the youth by starting a Boxing club. He also promised to start a recording studio to help talented Musicians and upcoming artistes in Entebbe record their music at an affordable fee.
