Busiro South Democratic Party primaries that had been scheduled to take place on Saturday were postponed after Member of Parliament aspirants Shaban Juuko, John Paul Muyanda, Paul Kaggwa Njala and Herman Nsinda filed a petition in the National Executive committee to halt the process after they indicated that they hadn’t been given enough time to look for funds to register and pick nomination forms unlike flamboyant Stephen Sekigozi who paid the required Shs 300,000 nomination fee. NEC resolved to extend the deadline to August 21, 2015 for receiving applications from all the candidates and thereafter the primaries will be held between August 22 -28. The four MP aspirants have formed an alliance to counter Sekigozi whom they have accused of splashing money around the constituency to get unfair advantage.
Party president Norbert Mao who was chief guest bashed President Yoweri Museveni whom he described as old, outdated and needed to be kicked out of state House in next year’s General elections.
“President Museveni is outdated and we’ve the opportunity to kick him out of State House in next year’s General elections. He is using cash to bribe the electorate and has turned Bank Of Uganda into his personal ATM Machine where he can withdraw cash at his wish” Mao said.
He noted that the Democratic Party has been left out of the national politics for a very long time though it has continuously played an instrumental role in successive governments after independence. He called on all party members to unite and urged all those at loggerheads to reconcile.
“I want to call upon all party members who are at loggerheads to reconcile and start a healing process because we are running out of time. I call upon all DP members who have joined the so called Platform for Truth and Justice and DP Mulamwa faction in Busiro South led by Katabi LCIII Chairman Gerald Wilson Mukasa to return because we have enough room in the party and we cannot defeat President Museveni when we are divided and fighting against each other” he added.
He also laughed at NRM Busiro South MP aspirant Peter Ssematimba whom he described as a man with a ‘leaking house’ who is changing goal posts to save his political future.
“Ssematimba is no threat to DP in Busiro South. We shall give him a knockout of a life time. First he was in Rubanga as LCIII Chairman, then lost to Lukwago in the Mayoral elections and now he has shifted to Busiro South. Don’t be surprised when he comes to stand in Gulu” Mao said sarcastically.
Meanwhile shs 500,000 was fundraised for the construction of Ben Kiwanuka House in Rubaga that will house the Democratic Party offices upon completion. Others party members pledged several bags of cement. The function was organized at the Kazi Gardens and was attended by Deputy Secretary General Dr. Gerald Siranda, Ali Mulyanyama Wakiso NEC representative, veteran DP member Expedito Sekyalo, DP Deputy Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro and Stephen Sekigozi who also doubles as the Deputy legal advisor Democratic Party Wakiso District.
