Rena community Development Association, an NGO based in Kampala put a smile on over thirty Children with disabilities in Entebbe Municipality after they donated to them 40 pairs of crutches, 6 walking frames and an assortment of clothes on Tuesday.
Speaking during the handover of the donations, Modesta Tezikyabbiri a PWD councilor and Entebbe Municipal Council Deputy Speaker thanked Rena Community Development Association for reaching out to Children with disabilities in Entebbe and expressed her discomfort with the public for undermining persons with Disabilities.
“It’s hard for us (PWDs) to use public means of transport because they’re not designed to favor our disabilities. Even commuter taxi drivers usually hesitate to take people of our nature but I’m really humbled by the tireless support given to us by the Deputy Mayor (Richard Sekyondo), town clerk (Charles Magumba), speaker (Peninah Kasaija) and our member of parliament (Hon. Rose Tumusiime) when called upon,” Ms. Modesta said.

Meanwhile, the deputy mayor Richard Sekyondo thanked Ms. Modesta for what he termed as fulfilling her manifesto and not letting her people down. “No wonder she’s always voted back to office unopposed every term,” applauded Mr. Sekyondo. He called upon parents having children with disabilities, to treat them equally like their siblings. The deputy mayor on behalf of Entebbe municipal council further pledged to continue financing all the programs in regard to people with disability.
On her part, the Entebbe municipality Member of Parliament Ms. Rose Tumusiime advised people with disabilities to love themselves. “I urge you all to stop wallowing in self pity because disability is not inability. A child is a gift from God and they should always be loved no matter how they appear to be,” said Hon. Rose Tumusiime who officiated the handover function.

The function was also graced by Entebbe municipal speaker Penina Kasaija, Town clerk Charles Magumba, Youth councilor Esther Asiimwe among others.
