Nine teams kicked off the 3rd National Deaf Challenge Cup Soccer Championship 2015 that got underway at the Works and police Grounds in Entebbe on Thursday May 7. At the Police Grounds high flying defending champions Sun City and Bright Stars (Deaf FC) grabbed 6 points each in the Group B Fixture. Sun City defeated Lira DFC 3-0 and Black Stars 5-1 while Bright Stars defeated Black Stars 5-0 and Lira 4-1.
In Group A fixture Entebbe DFC thumped Tigers 4-1 and Oyam 2-0 to grab 6 points. Kampala DFC beat Oyam 4-1 and Etop 2-0 to also grab 6 points. Etop beat Oyam 1-0 at the works grounds.
The three day event will climax on Saturday with the Finals and the winner will walk away with a trophy and medals while the runners up will receive medals. All participating teams will receive certificates of participation. All the nine teams are camping at Entebbe Parents Secondary School.
“Our aim is to give the Deaf a chance to enhance and nurture their talents. We want to connect the deaf to the world and the World to the deaf” Referee Charles Simogerere told entebbenews. Action resumes tomorrow at works and police grounds.
