Speaking at the closure of the sanitation week held on Friday at Nakiwogo Market Ahmed Ssetumbwe Principal Engineer in charge of Rural Water Development in the Ministry of Water and Environment lauded Entebbe Municipality for remaining a model municipality in Uganda in terms of cleanliness and sanitation.
He thanked Mayor Vincent Kayanja DePaul and his team at Entebbe Municipal Council for their transparent leadership that is working with the residents to keep Entebbe Municipality clean.
“I had a familiarization tour around Entebbe and I’m really impressed with cleanliness of the town. I’m also impressed with the cleanliness of Nakiwogo Market Toilets” Ssetumbwe stated.
He urged the residents and Entebbe Municipal Council Leadership to maintain the spirit of cleanliness. “I appeal to all the residents of Entebbe Municipality to work with National Water and Sewerage Co-operation to Keep Lake Victoria clean” Ssetumbwe stressed.
He also cautioned the residents to avoid throwing rubbish in the Lake adding that it is costly to purify the water after being contaminated.
In his speech LC III Division B Chairman Anthony Ssegujja appealed to parents and teachers to continuously sensitize pupils on cleanliness and sanitation.
“Entebbe Municipality should remain as the number one cleanest municipality in Uganda” Ssegujja stressed.
He also called on the residents to avoid littering the town with garbage by utilizing the municipal council truck that collects garbage every week.
Meanwhile Aspiring LCV Councilor Division B Wakiso District Maggwa Ssali appealed to the residents to remain clean throughout and avoid waiting for the sanitation week to clean up their communities.
