    The Wakiso Zonal Football Championships climaxed on Thursday with 2014 defending champions Boston High School clinching their second Title. Boston High School overcame Merry Land High School in the final match to claim their second Title. Muwonge Joseph opened the score sheet with a superb shot in the 43rd minute to give his side a 1-0 lead against Merry Land High School Kigungu.  Ater Mark’s own goal in the second half finally sealed Boston High School’s victory who also dominated the entire match with Merry Land failing to make any impact.

    Merry Land High School’s Osuta Herbert finished as tournament top scorer with 8 goals.

    In his remarks Guest of Honour and Fufa 1st Vice President Justus Mugisha lauded both Boston High School and Merry Land High School for reaching the finals and for automatically qualifying for the Wakiso District Championships.

    He was happy to note that Entebbe Zone had the highest number of participants in the entire country in the regional Zonal Championships. Mugisha however cautioned the players not to ignore their studies to play football stressing that Football is just a co-curricular activity.

    “Many of you (footballers) have a tendency of abandoning your studies to play football. Many of you keep repeating classes because you don’t concentrate, I’m happy we have passed a law as a federation to encourage you to study. If any of you repeats a class we shall automatically prevent you from playing in any football tournaments” Mugisha stressed.

    Mugisha also disclosed Fufa’s readiness to send an instructor to train all Secondary School football coaches in Entebbe on several aspects of the game of football.

    “Fufa is ready to send an instructor to train all secondary school football coaches in Entebbe in different aspects of the game of football provided the schools organize themselves.”  he stressed.

    Boston High School Coach Mulawa Hussein attributed his side’s victory to early preparation, hard work and commitment from the players as well as co-operation from the School administration.

    “I feel proud as a coach that we have successfully defended the trophy. We have finished unbeaten and without conceding any goal” Boston High School Coach Mulawa Hussein said.

    In the first semifinal match Boston High School eliminated St. Mary’s College Kisubi with a 2-0 win. Goals for Boston High School came from Mbaziira Fred in the first Half and Kirunde Jimmy in the second half.

    Merry Land High School Kigungu eliminated Entebbe Parents S.S with a 2-1 win. Maginso Emmanuel opened the score sheet to give Merry Land a 1-0 lead against Entebbe Parents. Eddie Kigozi equalized for Entebbe Parents in the 47th minute to go level with Merry Land High School but Osuta Herbert cut short their happiness after he scored a second goal for Merry Land High School in the last dying minutes of the match.

    The tournament kicked off on Thursday March 12 and had 24 participating teams from Entebbe zone.
