    Uganda, South Sudan In Joint Bird Flu Control Campaign.

    The Government of Uganda and the Government of South Sudan have embarked on joint efforts to deal with bird flu outbreak that was reported to have plagued Uganda a couple of weeks ago. Agriculture Minister Vincent Ssempijja who was addressing a joint press conference with the South Sudan Fisheries and Livestock minister James Duku at the Agriculture Ministry office in Entebbe on Wednesday indicated the Uganda has adequate measures to control and minimize the outbreak.

    “We have managed to control bird flu outbreak and I’m glad that our poultry farmers took the initiative to implement the control measures to protect their poultry from getting contaminated. So far there are no wild dead wild birds and our poultry is safe. Our focus now is to ensure that we resume exporting Poultry to South Sudan and Kenya because the outbreak is getting finished”, Minister Ssempijja said.

    On his part the South Sudan Fisheries and Livestock minister James Duku who was on a bird flu outbreak fact finding mission in Uganda revealed that government of South Sudan is standing with government of Uganda to jointly fight the outbreak. He lauded Uganda for being transparent and cooperative with South Sudan to ensure that Bird Flu is controlled.

    “We as the government of South Sudan are standing together with the government of Uganda to jointly fight the outbreak. We have conducted a very successful fact finding mission and we have discovered that bird flu is under control and it’s not alarming as it had been perceived. Our technical teams from both South Sudan and Uganda will come up with joint modalities to enable find a reasonable solution to the disease. The government of South Sudan is assured that the outbreak is under control and our borders are open to Uganda”, James Duku revealed.
