Flavia Namakula took the lead at the 64th edition of the Uganda Ladies Open tournament after she registered 72 gross in the opening round at Kitante on Thursday.
Namakula hit five birdies on day one. She birdied holes 1, 3, 6, 8 and 18 to lead lady golfers from Zimbabwe Kenya and Tanzania.
“It was a bit challenging but I just played my game. I will just take it easy tomorrow (today) because I’m not worried of anyone, I will just play the course,” Namakula told the New Vision.
Harriet Kitaka who returned 74 gross is in second position while Tanzania’s Iddi Madina is third with 76 gross. The 64th Edition of the ladies open will climax on Saturday at the par 72 course.
Defending champion Angel Eaton from Tanzania is ten strokes off the leader and is playing with a thigh injury, perhaps its hindering her form at the prestigious Open.
