Twenty five years after he succumbed to the HIV/AIDS scourge, renowned Ugandan musical icon Late Philly Lutaaya’s legacy’s still lives on. His contribution to the fight against the HIV/AIDS scourge in Uganda was honored by one hundred Golfers who descended upon Entebbe Golf Course to play in a charity Golf Tournament dubbed Philly Lutaaya cares Charity Golf Tournament aimed at raising funds for the construction of the Philly Lutaaya Vocational Center in Kanoni Gomba.
The aim of the Philly Lutaaya vocational center is to create opportunities for the widows and youth to develop entrepreneurial skills and curb escalating unemployment rates.
The Golfing fraternity raised Shs 20m (Twenty million shillings) and the Uganda Golf Union President Kiryowa Kiwanuka was pleased and humbled that the Golfing fraternity could contribute to such a noble cause.
“Ladies, Gentlemen and fellow Golfers I am really pleased and humbled that we have contributed to such a noble cause. We came to know about HIV/AIDS because Philly Lutaaya came out boldly and courageously and created awareness about the killer disease” Kiryowa told the 19th Hole gallery.
Kiryowa also appealed to the married couples to be faithful to their to each other and avoid having multiple sexual partners.
Tezra Lutaaya speaks
Tezra Lutaaya philly Lutaaya’s daughter the founder and Executive Director Philly Lutaaya Cares organization was grateful to the Golfing Fraternity and the sponsors for having supported the noble cause of setting up an organization in memory of her late father. She was accompanied by Abe Lutaaya late Philly Lutaaya’s older brother.
“I want to sincerely thank Entebbe Golf Club and all the sponsors for their support. A big thank you to all of you” Tezra told the 19th Hole gallery.
“We need to continue working together to eradicate the HIV/AIDS scourge in Uganda and I want to appeal to the entire public to know their HIV status and for those who are positive don’t spread the virus” Tezra stressed.
“Our struggle should be to eliminate the stigmatization, discrimination and alienation of people living with HIV/AIDS” she added.
Pioneer jazz artist Isaiah Katumwa and Talanta band performed at the one day event. To show her appreciation Tezra awarded certificates of recognition to all the sponsors who supported the noble cause.S

Chief Guest Hon.James Baba praises Late Philly Lutaaya.
The chief Guest at the charity event Hon. James Baba the state minister for internal affairs praised Late Philly Lutaaya for leading the campaign against HIV/AIDS through his music.
“At that time it wasn’t easy for someone to come out and openly declare that they were HIV positive because the stigmatization was high but Philly Lutaaya was courageous enough to reveal to the entire nation that he had acquired the virus” Hon. Baba noted.
Baba noted that the HIV infection rates were increasing at an alarming rate and called upon the entire public to intensify the campaign against the HIV/AIDS pandemic. He contributed shs. 500,000 (five hundred thousand shillings) to the construction of the Philly Lutaaya Vocational center.

Buddo class (1993-1998) emerged as the winning team with 213 Nett. The team comprised of Ocaya Martin (68 Nett), Mutebi Deco (70 Nett), Sendawula Peter (75 Nett), Nakalembe Irene (81 Nett).
Standard Chartered Bank was first runner up with a total of 217 Nett. The team comprised of Amale Bonny (72 Nett), Okwi Timothy (70 Nett), Wu Kun (79 Nett), Shou Ta Huang (75 Nett).
In second Runner up position was DHL which returned a total of 300 Nett. Their team comprised of Mike Fiacco (74 Nett), Ogwang Emma (72 Nett), Galiwango Joseph (72 Nett), Tumusiime Edwin (82 Nett).
The winning, first and second runner teams received double up chip vouchers worth Shs 200,000 all courtesy of Kampala Casino.
Ocaya Martin and Nakalembe Irene had the longest drive on Hole 18 for men and women respectively. Amale Bonny and Jayne Thomas had nearest to the pin on Hole 10 for men and women respectively.
