Top Aspiring Central Region Youth MP Kiwanuka James is unhappy man and cursing why he had to go to Busia to Monitor the LCV By-election that took place two weeks ago on January 22.
The budding Democratic Party politician together with his other four colleagues had travelled to Busia to work as polling agents and monitor ballots for their Democratic Party candidate Njoki Deo who bitterly lost to the NRM Candidate Wanyama Steven. On arrival in Busia the poor chaps were immediately rounded up and detained at Busia Police station for several hours and were also ordered to surrender all their items including wallets, belts, Mobile Phones, shoes and laptops that were to be used in the tallying of results in addition to squatting in the sun bare-chested and with no shoes.
The poor chaps were later bundled on a police patrol pickup truck and driven at a break neck speed to Tororo half naked in the wee hours of the morning and dumped in one of the notorious jails without anything to eat and drink. They were released at 6.40pm on police bond in the evening after the voting exercise was finished. Several opposition activists including Stella Obel stood surety for them.
Now Kiwanuka James who is also the Entebbe Municipal Council ICT Boss has scoffed at Afande Kaweesi and Busia DPC for conniving with NRM’s Wanyama Steven to rig the elections and have them arrested and charged with plotting to disrupt the by-election. The poor chap who has been on police bond since January 22 has accused Afande Kaweesi of covertly working for and supporting the NRM Regime and stifling several opposition activities in addition to harassing opposition party leaders and deploying several goons to stuff ballots for NRM’s Wanyama Steven.
