The Junior Golf Team is fired up ahead of the all Africa Junior Golf stroke play Championship to be held in Lusaka Zambia from May 3 to May 8. The four man squad includes 18 year old Team Captain Daniel Baguma and Richard Baguma all from Toro Club, 16 year old Deco Mutebi from Entebbe Club and 18 year old Hassan Kiyemba from Uganda Golf Club.
The four junior Golfers who are currently in camp at Entebbe Club made the cut after a general qualification tournament where 20 juniors where selected. From the 20 another qualification tournament was held were 6 were selected and a final tournament was held were the four made the cut.
“We have been together in camp for close to two months now and we are ready to do our best in Zambia” Captain Dan Baguma told entebbenews.
Captain Dan Baguma will be making his fourth appearance while Deco Mutebi and Hassan Kiyemba will be making their maiden appearance.
“I’ll be making my maiden appearance in the championship and I’m confident we shall win. We hope to bring the trophy home the way our colleagues (Team Uganda) did in the just concluded Zone VI Africa Golf Championship at the Uganda Golf Club” Kiyemba said.
The four-man South African junior squad stretched an almost unassailable 21 shot lead after three rounds at Chainama Hills Golf Club to a 35-stroke victory over Zimbabwe to be crowned 2014 Champions. South Africa has won the Junior Golf Championship a record 16 times. The participating nations include South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Reunion, Uganda, Kenya, Tunisia, Swaziland, Namibia, Botswana, Mauritius and Malawi.
