The Inaugural Entebbe Super Cup Tournament officially got underway at the Banga football pitch on Monday December 12, 2016 with Team Banga-Nakiwogo bagging all the three points both in the football and Netball Tournaments. Kigozi Baker put Banga-Nakiwogo ahead after he broke the deadlock with a superb Penalty in the 52nd minute. Ssekitto Antonio doubled Banga-Nakiwogo’s lead with a glancing header in the 79th Minute. Banga-Nakiwogo kept Lunyo Central goalie John Robert Serugabi on pressure saving several shots that his defensive pack couldn’t control.
Referee Moses Lubowa booked Banga-Nakiwogo’s Andrew Setabi and Lunyo Central duo Willy Gombya and Edgar Mangau with yellow cards for their unsporting behavoiur.
Meanwhile Banga-Nakiwogo thrashed an inexperienced and teenage Lunyo Central side 24-1 in Netball at the Banga Netball pitch. Banga will host Nsamizi on Saturday December 17th while Lunyo Central will take on Virus on Tuesday December 20, 2016. All the matches will be played at the Banga football pitch.
20 football teams and 10 Netball teams from the different villages in Entebbe Municipality are participating in the Inaugural Tournament that will climax on January 26, 2017 when NRM will be celebrating their 31st Liberation Anniversary.
Tournament organizer Hon. Rose Tumusiime (Entebbe Municipality Member of Parliament) donated a ball to all the participating teams. She pledged to support and uplift the girl child through sports.
“I would like to thank all the participating teams both in Football and Netball. The major aim of the tournament is to unite all the people of Entebbe Municipality in sports and development regardless of their tribe, religion and political party affiliation. The tournament will be played annually in December and will climax on January 26”, Hon. Tumusiime revealed.
Hon. Sulaiman Ssejjengo the Chairman Buganda Football Association and LCIII Chairman Ndejje Division, Makindye Municipality who presided over the opening ceremony hailed Hon. Tumusiime for organizing the tournament and pledged to work with her to ensure that girls are uplifted in sports.
Referees Appeal For Support:
Fred Mpiima one of the licensed Fufa referees in Entebbe Municipality appealed for support for more refresher courses in football and Netball. Mpiima revealed that Entebbe Municipality has only four qualified referees (Archilles Lukyamuzi, Yoweri Kwikiriza, Moses Lubowa and Himself). Mpiima revealed that there are several non-qualified referees who illegally officiate football matches.
