Tagy Educational Center emerged champions of the Entebbe Municipality Mama Becca women football Qualifiers that were held last week on Friday at the Lake Victoria School play ground. Tagy beat Nsamizi Army Primary School 6-5 on penalties after a 0-0 full time score. Sandra Nambi scored two penalties while Ndagire Hambiba, Lillian Mutuzo, Sanyu Babirye Judith and Nayigirwa Safarah scored the other four penalties. Tagy beat Marine Base primary school 2-0 in the quarterfinals while in the semifinals they thumped Entebbe Educational Center 4-1 to reach the finals. Marine Base Primary School, Nsamizi and St. Joseph’s Katabi Primary school will also represent Entebbe Municipality at the Mama Becca women football Championship to be held on April 8 -9 at the Old Kampala Secondary School play ground. Other schools that participated in the one day qualification campaign included Lake Victoria School, Namate P.S, Kisubi Mapeera, Kiwafu P.S, Nakiwogo P.S, Uganda Airforce P.S, St. Thereza P.S, St. Agnes P.S, Entebbe Educational Center and Bugonga P.S.
Tagy Educational Center walked away with a trophy and all the participating schools were awarded with certificates of participation courtesy of FUFA.
FUFA Women’s Development officer Hadijah Namuyanja thanked all the participating school and indicated that FUFA is willing and ready to support Women Football.
This is the beginning of girl’s football in Entebbe. You are all winners in your capacity and our aim as FUFA is to have a better U-17 and U-20 Lady Cranes, Hadijah said.
Mama Becca cup is held annually in memory of Mama Becca Kazibwe who was an ardent football fan and a promoter of women football in Uganda.
