Shs 20m Raised From Entebbe Rotary Cancer Run.



The first ever Entebbe Rotary Cancer run got under way on Sunday with over 400 runners participating in the 5km, 10km and 21kms race categories. The cancer run was held concurrently in 16 districts across Uganda including Kampala, Masaka, Arua, Jinja, Iganga, Tororo, Kasese, Hoima, Kyenjojo, Mbarara, Kabale, Kihihi, Masindi, Bushenyi and Lira in a bid to raise USD 4 million to purchase a linear accelerator cancer Machine for Nsambya Hospital.
According to the Entebbe Rotary Cancer Run Chairman Jemimah Semakadde over Twenty million shillings (Shs20m) was raised from the run that included Rotary Clubs located along Entebbe Road.
As Entebbe Rotary Club members we are grateful to the participants who have turned up in large numbers for the cancer run. The cancer run is the first of it’s kind in Entebbe and we have raised over Shs 20m from all the Rotary Clubs in Entebbe. Our goal is to make the cancer run an annual event. Next year we hope to make it even bigger, Jemimah Semakadde said.
Mayor Kayanja Vincent DePaul who was chief runner thanked Rotary Club of Entebbe Sub-district for organizing the cancer run.
Our role as citizens is to share the little we have communally and by contributing to such noble causes we are insuring against our future because we are all candidates for cancer, Mayor Kayanja said.
The Cancer run was mainly sponsored by Centenary Bank plus other partners who included Coca-cola, Chimpaanze Trust, Let’s go travel, Imperial Groups of Hotels, IMC, AAR, Entebbe Municipal Council and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
