
Pro Golfer Saidi Mawa scored a course over par score of 72 gross on the second day action to amass a total of 147 gross and claim the professional event of the 17th JBG golf tournament at the par 71 Entebbe Golf course.
Mawa, a Jinja based professional golfer played catch up to the day one leader, Silver Opio who was leading by the close of business on the opening day.
The towering golfer played 6 birdies over the two days registering success on holes 2, 11 and 18 (day 1) and on holes 3, 12 and 18 during day two.
“The greens were fast on day one. When it rained over night, i knew i would catch up the 3 strokes i was trailing the leader” Mawa said.
It was an eventful day for Mawa, who will smile to the bank to have a lion’s share of the U.shs 5M sponsor’s purse where 6 other professionals have made the cut.
His brother, Shaban Ram won the Motor Care golf tournament at the Uganda Golf Club, Kampala on Friday.
Silver Opio, Ian Odokonyero, George Olayo, Herman Mutaawe, Fred Wanzala and Opio Onito join Mawa among the golfer to make the cut.
Fred Wanzala has been the defending champion in the professional event with captain Timothy Okwi, the defending champion in the main category (men) and Maureen Okurra (women).
